I was wondering if Photosynth will enable the gyroscope on a handset and enable a person to scroll through the 3-D photo they just stitched together without having to use haptic touch.

I was just going to suggest this feature when I saw this post had already been put here. I think this would drastically improve the experience of looking at not just your own panoramas, but also those uploaded by others. You look up and you see the sky. You look down, and you see the ground. You look all around you, and you see what you would see if you turned in that direction. This kind of immersion into the panoramic world would be just mind-blowing, I think. It would be just like looking through a window that lets you see into another part of the world somewhere.

I really want this feature. When my friend uploaded a panorama to facebook using another app it detected the gyroscope and I was able to view the scene by rotating my phone, but I found that I couldn't do that with the panorama I uploaded with photosynth. I love the app, but I really want this feature.

Absolutely would make this app the best on the market :)

Come on, Microsoft! This would be such an easy thing to add to the Photosynth app. It would take one programmer maybe a week or two, if even that. And it would absolutely blow people away and make headlines and buzz. And it would allow panoramas to finally take their place alongside photography, video, and literature as a true genre of human expression. Imagine standing with your phone or tablet in front of you, and moving it above you and around you without touching the screen, in order to look around a museum or a mountaintop or an ancient ruin as if you were really there.

Is Microsoft just giving up on Photosynth and leaving it to die? Is that the plan? If so, then I guess just forget I said anything. But if not, and if somebody, somewhere in your company still cares at all about this project (not to mention caring about changing the world a little bit) then I can't understand why you would not want to add this feature!

Do it.

I've been using the "Panorama 360" app on my iPad for a couple of years, and despite the inferior photo capture and stitching technology, the ability to view the panorama using the gyroscope is what blows people away.

I actually use it to show prospective students what our college campus looks like, and they get very excited because it feels like they're standing in the middle of the space. Occasionally, they even ask if the people in the panorama can see them, because the sensation of viewing the panorama with the gyroscope turned on creates such a compelling sense of artificial reality.

It's a shame that Microsoft hasn't enabled this feature on Photosynth. Despite superior image quality, the results are significantly less impressive without this feature.
