I don't want every image to be navigated to but I need every image to create the views. Please allow us to build the Navigation the Synth uses.

Hi there, jbenisek,

This is largely what the highlight reel is designed to help you do. I see you've applied highlights to several of your synths, so I know that you're aware of them.

In the case of a family gathering or other special occasion where you know you will be taking personal photos all within a fairly contained area you can shoot the setting either beforehand or afterward to get a good complete model of the area where all the photos belong to the same group (100% synthy or close) and then make a version of the synth which includes the shots of family and friends into it, with a fair degree of confidence that they will nest comfortably within the rest of the photos.

This frees you up to focus on taking photos of people while they are in the moment and also pretty much guarantees that all the important photos will connect to the setting. You can then simply use the highlights for all the special photos that you wanted to share in the first place.

I did something similar to this with a tourist site in California, except that my shooting was limited by the time that my family was willing to stay at the location. I put too many redundant snapshots on the highlights, but they are all the shots of family.

I basically left my brother's girlfriend and father to shoot the important people shots and focused on capturing the environment myself, so that their photos would have a good chance of all fitting correctly into space. There are one or two photos that went astray, but not too many.

Feel free to take a look here:

I know that this is probably more photos than you would ever think of wanting to take, but since digital photos don't really cost anything, reconsider the value of your children being able to walk around the entire yard or house as it was on a particular day or month.

Providing a tour of not only the special moments, but the entire environment as it once was will be a precious glimpse into the past in years to come. Photographing what it is like to walk around the entire kitchen and see how parents or grandparents had things arranged can be very special.

Your initial suggestion also made me think of an old suggestion on the first Photosynth forum here:
