Do you dream of point clouds? Well I do. I shot this exclusively with Photosynth in mind. Will posting higher res images yield a more defined point cloud? Or is it more of a function of highlight and shadow / contrast?

I think the number of pictures is more important then res, exposure or size.
But I prefer the very good view over the building with pictures, than the point cloud.

All images get down-sampled to around 1.5mb during the matching phase, so resolution doesn't improve the point cloud. Some have achieved really good point clouds from relatively few images using narrow apertures to attaining decent DOFs. This chap is a good exponent of what can be done with small res images & narrow aps:

As pierrot says, oodles of images can help too.

I made a second go at it with another wider angle set from the same shoot, and a more tightly cropped set from my first Empire Synth above. I think this worked well for creating a more defined point cloud.

It's probably just a matter of the point of view ;-))
I love the flight I can drive myself over Manhattan (thanks to you as a photographer and to Photosynth); but the first one was better (I found it better!) I tried to have a view over the Chrisler building but could'nt find it; if you 're going to fly again, please ...
Ok, it's funny to move the point cloud and see the building from floor level, and how high it is. I'm not sure, but it could be better if you crop closer to the building (different subject but have a look on how close I cropped around the statue )
But there is a risk: sometimes you believe the program is synthing with the main subject, but it does'nt even notice it and synth only with the background; it's dangerous with your ESB because the 4 sides are nearly the same; good luck!

Apologies if I have the wrong synth, but I believe that your synth is famous now, flyphoto2020.

Check this link for video and a side of your synth that you may not have yet seen.
