I love this application, just found it and not only new to this but also to burning DVDs, is it possible to save a synth and burn it to a DVD?

Hello, StJustPaul,

I assume you are talking about burning the actual synth files to disc and then letting others load them and navigate them on their own.

Burning synths to disc is not officially supported. Photosynths are meant to be shared online so that (hopefully soon) they can start tying themselves together.

I realise that you may have friends or family whose internet connection is not good enough to view synths or who have no internet at all. Unfortunately there is not an easy way to show them your synths for now besides inviting them to your house.

One other way to show others your synths would simply be to make a video of you exploring your synth and showing them around it. Microsoft Expression Encoder can be used to save a clean video of you looking at your synth along with whatever you say in your microphone to your hard drive which could then be burned as a video DVD. Click here to download it:

If you really want to save all your synth files to a disc, please read my reply at this link:

I do not have any way to view them yet, but I can tell you how to at least save them.

Thank you Nathaniel,
I have decided to just tell my friends about synth and my user name so they can see for themselves.
I am not sure what you mean by 'tying themselves together' will that affect my synths?

No worries. :)

What I meant is that it has been part of the Photosynth vision from the beginning to combine synths of the same place or thing with each other as well as linking synths that sit right next to each other on the map to each other. Unfortunately this requires a lot of work for the Photosynth team and rather than make people wait to try Photosynth until the team had that 'linking' part finished, they let us at least begin making our own synths, even if they're a little isolated at present.

Since we've been able to upload our own photos (2008 August 20) people who had been watching Photosynth since it was announced were a little sad that, for example, Eiffel Tower synth 1 from me and Eiffel Tower 2 synth from someone else weren't automatically combined yet.

No firm announcements have been made as to when we'll see synth linking released and I don't know if it will be completely automatic or much of anything else about it.

I did do a little search for mentions of plans to link synths together last September and posted my results here:

Additionally, here are some videos from before Photosynth was released for us to make our own synths that share some of the vision of what Photosynth can do in the future:

And here's the latest word I've heard from inside the Photosynth team:

Thanks Nathaniel explaining that.
I am enthralled by 'Sync' so much so I climbed a high Tor today just to get some pics of my home village, and I am 75 so it was a bit of a struggle but worth it. I am not satisfied with my pics yet but hope to record large chunks of Cornwall so it would be amazing if eventually such syncs can be tied together.
I just love this programme
