i've recently signed up and when my friend searched my name for my first synth there was another set of pics shown alongside my first synth. my tag is Tao2 and the pictures shown were from thailand.... bang tao 2. i don't want to take credit for someone else's pics so i thought i would find out if i could choose another username. i think this should have shown as a conflict when i originally signed in ?
There is no mechanism for changing your username on photosynth.net. This question was actually asked (and answered by a Photosynth team member, Jonathan) just over a week ago at the following link.
There is nothing to stop you from signing up for a second account, but that will take a second Windows Live ID as well which is something of a hassle.
To be absolutely clear, though, the search results for your username ( http://photosynth.net/Search.aspx?q=tao2 ) is also pulling in the "Phuket - Bang Tao2" synth because of its title. Its author's username is actually "Si.Frank" and therefore you aren't taking credit for anyone else's photos.
Think of it this way: anyone in the world can make a synth with the name "Nathanael" in it. When someone searches for my account they will also get any other synths with "Nathanael" in their titles, but it should be clear who the author was.
The easiest way around all of this is to simply give someone the exact link to the list of your synths. There are two links which can accomplish this and which one you hand out is entirely up to you. Here they are:
Now I prefer the first one because it is shorter and more straightforward, but the second one is made to specifically to look at the list of your synths. (The target of the first link might change in the future from showing a list of your synths, if the website is updated in the future, because it simply links to your profile.)
appreciate the advice nathanael.
As of 2010 July 14, you can either rename an account or delete it. See the following link for more details:
To change your nickname, just sign into the site, go to your profile page, and look on the lower left under your username and bio.
