Did the leaves fall off? Something not working right? Let us know how we can improve the Photosynth experience.
I am so keen to get working, but every time I start Photosynth on my computer, the following error message appears:
Photosynth service in not available
Please try again later
Sorry to hear you're having problems. It sounds like the synther isn't being allowed to talk to the internet. This might be due to a firewall program that is protecting your computer or, if your internet is administrated by someone else (say like an IT department at your workplace) they may have a specific list of programs and sites that they allow to access the internet.
In either case, you just need to let whoever is protecting your computer that Photosynth is not a troublemaker and it's safe to let it talk to the internet. If you could find out what firewall you're using, I might be able to give you step by step directions, but if you have someone tech savvy on hand, just let them know that you need to create an exception for Photosynth.
To make sure that I've diagnosed your problem correctly, you could always disable the firewall temporarily and try Photosynth again. Be sure to reinstate your firewall as soon as you're done, though.
I can't even find a link to start the process!!! I can't be that stupid though I sure feel I've been duped. Never had so many tracking cookies!
I can't tell from your message what you may or may not have installed yet. Please forgive me if I over-explain things.
To *view* synths, you'll need to download the Microsoft Silverlight 3 installer which is available for Windows and Mac OSX. Run the installer once it is finished downloading. There is a link to the installer on every synth you visit, before you've installed Silverlight. If you can view synths today, you don't need to worry about this because you've already got Silverlight 3.
To *create* synths, you'll need the small Photosynth program that you install on your computer to calculate synths and upload them to your account on the website automatically. To download it, click the 'Create' link at the top of any page here on photosynth.net and use the "Download Photosynth" or "Upgrade Photosynth" button to download the Photosynth installer. Once it downloads run the installer. After this use the start menu to start Photosynth.
Once you've got the little Photosynth program open on your computer, open it, put at least three photos of a stationary object (hopefully more, like 24 shots moving around something in a circle), give your 'synth'(think album or collection of photos) a name, and click the 'Synth' button in the 'synther' (that's what most of us call the Photosynth program that makes the synths.
Please write back to let me know if I didn't cover what you needed, if you have any more problems after you do what I describe, or let me know if I actually helped.
Hi, I click the Create link, but I don't get a Download or Upgrade button. Just leads me to a page with one synth and says something like, once it's done downloading, click on the thumbnail...any help? Thanks!
i found a link to installer in another thread,,,Thanks
Great to hear it, Zamanarama,
For others still needing help downloading, this page here ( http://photosynth.net/create.aspx ) should be linking you to:
this installer if you've never installed the synther before:

this installer if you need a new version:

To download the Silverlight plugin for viewing synths, please visit: http://www.microsoft.com/silverlight/resources/install.aspx
I recently installed photosynth as well and at every attempt to create a synth I get the service unavailable message as well; I tried turning off the firewall and also adding exceptions to the firewall and my avast antivirus to no avail; any suggestions? I would really like to start creating projects.
