Did the leaves fall off? Something not working right? Let us know how we can improve the Photosynth experience.
So the title sums it up nicely.
I've tried a couple of synths comprised entirely of GPS tagged photos and each time Photosynth automatically geotags the synth in the middle of the ocean off the west coast of Guinea, Africa although they were taken along the coast of California and display correctly in Pro Photo Tools.
I would link to the collections for your analysis, but the images were copyrighted and I just wanted to see how well they aligned in Photosynth so they were unlisted synths to begin with and have been deleted now.
As it turned out the overlap was not really enough on the photos anyway and the reconstruction had enough errors in it (mainly the lefts and rights along the coast not always being quite the correct number of degrees left or right and compounding as you traverse the coast to warp the pointcloud like a banana). It seems to me that using the GPS co-ords should be able to 'accordion' the pointcloud back into alignment with the map.
Sorry for the dual report|request, but they were tightly enough intertwined that I wasn't sure how to separate them.
Nathanael, What software did you use to tag these photos? Also, could you please send me some of them? We've noticed this problem in a small number of cases, but havent been able to repro with the test images we use (with lat/long added in a variety of way). We had this down as just incorectly tagged images (usually 0,0). This would be a great help in tracking this issue down. Thanks!
