Can’t seem to get something to synth right? Curious about what lens is best? Ask your fellow Photosynthers here.
Is there a synth too big for the website? I've seen more than 5 gigapixels, but is it possible to upload even larger images?
You appear to be asking about panoramas instead of photosynths. I'm not aware of a maximum resolution for panos, if there is one.
In an actual synth, each JPG can be a maximum of 32 megabytes (but with varying qualities of lossy JPG compression, that doesn't correspond to a fixed number of megapixels) and most synths don't exceed 2000 photos before the desktop Photosynth application for Windows runs out of RAM while reconstructing the scene.
Sorry for not being very specific. Thanks!
I should have added that your main limiting factor will simply be the amount of RAM installed on your computer. The more RAM you have, the higher resolution panoramas you can stitch.
Since ICE is offered in both 32 bit and 64 bit options, you could use the 64 bit version to utilize up to 8 terabytes of RAM (if you could afford that much :)
32 bit applications max out at being able to use 4 gigabytes of RAM (that goes for 32 bit versions of Windows as well), so if you want to stitch the biggest panos possible, get a 64 bit computer, 64 bit Windows, 64 bit ICE and as much RAM as you can afford.
Photosynth.net doesn't offer an easy way to sort panos by highest resolution or synths by highest # of photos.
I searched photosynth.net for gigapixels ( http://bing.com/search?q=site:photosynth.net+gigapixels )
This is everything bigger than 5GP that I saw on the first 10 pages:
