Topic: Restoring panoramas

First of all, sorry if this was already answered somewhere else: I searched on this forum but couldn't find anything related to my question.

Anyway, I recently had to reset my iPhone to factory settings. That means that all the pictures that were saved on my Camera Roll (including all Photosynth panoramas) were deleted. Luckily, I had sync'ed my Camera Roll with iPhoto and was later on able to restore all my pictures. Nonetheless, even though the panoramas themselves are now saved back on Camera Roll, Photosynth doesn't recognize them. It thinks that there are no panoramas saved on my iPhone (the "On Device" listing doesn't show any panoramas).

Is there any way to tell Photosynth about the panoramas that are saved on my Camera Roll, but which it for some reason doesn't know about?

Hi, Bruno,

The Photosynth mobile pano app saves the panoramas in two different formats when it stitches them:
1: a cube map for displaying in the interactive viewer
2: a flat JPG for your iOS camera roll.

So, when you stitch a new panorama and view it in the app, you're not actually loading the flattened version of the pano from your camera roll, but rather the tiled cube map from the app's own storage.

When you reset your device to new settings, you restored the camera roll flattened version of your panos but, unfortunately, not the cube maps which are, I think, lost for good.

By the way, in the conversation I just linked to, is a Photosynth team member.
