There is an outfit called Virtual Tour Technology, who claims to have owned the 360 VR creation method, going around threatening lawsuits against clients of professional VR photographers. Their strategy appears to be extorting licensing fees from business owners who deploy any form of interactive panoramic images on their sites. IVPRA, the group who represents VR photographers is mobilizing to fight this baseless harassment by soliciting donations to fund the patent reeaxmination. Since Microsoft is now a heavy user of this VR technology, I wonder what is its opinion on this matter? IVPRA has very limited resource to fight this, will Microsoft lend its legal might?
