Here's another one of our Halloween decorations. His name is "Doug". The name is simple - it because it looks like he "dug" his way out of his grave. He's usually positioned near the front of our cemetary since he's one of our best props. He's made of foam-filled latex, and he's hand-painted by my wife. My two daughters really like this one.

Check out the point cloud on this one! Press "P" on your keyboard to show the cloud =)

Excellent work on the statue and the photography. Do you use a flash and a black backdrop?

Hi Nathan,
These photos were all taken with a black short-nap carpet as a back-drop, and there's no flash. The only light source was a few recessed lights in my dining room. Thanks for asking! It feels nice to be validated =)

I really appreciate how solid the point cloud is. It's also nice how sharp the photos are, even with such low light. Great job Tan!

Awesome that you did this at home with regular old house lighting. Captured really well.

You're doing awesome with your PhotoSynth's. I love this one, along with the cemetery one. The point clouds are awesome. I've only browse through those two of yours. I'll look through some more. Keep up the great work!

Take care,

FYI, the Photosynth team is using Doug as test data for viewer development. Good stuff!

OMG! You've made me the proudest Synth-dad! Photosynth is terribly addictive. If one of my synths were to make it to the home page, perhaps I could go back to work and spend time with my kids again (hint hint). No guilt trip intended... really. It's not like the bill collectors have started calling or anything.

Hahaha I find your joke about spending time with your kids :)
I've seen two or three of your works, but this and the one of your dog is AMAZING! I've been trying to get great point clouds like you have in alot of photos, so do you have any tips?
(you have a beautiful dog by the way)

Hey, I'm also working on object synths, what camera do you use?

Sphynctre Over 1 year ago
These photos were taken with a Nikon D50 using the 18-200 lens on a tripod and a turn-table.

Thank you for your compliments! My only tips for object synths would be:
1. Use an object that isn't shiny, smooth, or black.
2. Take many more pictures than you think are necessary; for going around objects, every 5 degrees or less helps a lot.

Thanks for asking!
