The climb up to the Swuftcurrent lookout in Glacier Nation Park is a brute, but well worth it. The lookout building never seems to get any bigger as you slog the 1200 feet up the talus. We made the trip en route between Granite Park and Many Glacier on August 9, 2014. The building is significant as one of a chain of manned fire lookout posts within the park. The low two-story timber-construction structure with a gabled roof was built in 1936. Its detailing is reminiscent of the Swiss Chalet style of the nearby Many Glacier Hotel.
